The GWU said today that Gozitans were opting not to work in catering establishments in Gozo because conditions were inferior to those of Malta.
The union was reacting to comments by Joe Muscat, secretary of the Gozo Tourism Association, who was reported to have said that hotels and restaurants in Gozo were having to employ foreigners because they could not find local labour.
The union said most Gozitans were opting to work in catering establishments in Malta because conditions were better and they were governed by collective agreements. Some Gozitans had even sought help from the union to find jobs in Malta.
