Petrov: Manchester City's Bulgarian winger Martin Petrov will be out for three to four months with a knee injury, the club said. The 29-year-old sustained the injury last week while on international duty. "He's got a tear in his meniscus that will need to be repaired," manager Mark Hughes said.

Fabregas: Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas has revealed he received an offer by an Italian club over the summer. Barcelona are keen to lure Fabregas to the Nou Camp while Milan are also admirers of his quality. "Yes, it's true. I did have offers from Italy which were interesting from an economical point of view," Fabregas said. "However, nothing really happened."

Veron: Midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron was on target as Estudiantes beat Botafogo 2-0 in the first leg of their Copa Sudamericana quarter-final on Tuesday despite having a player sent off early in the game. Doping: Athletics coach Trevor Graham was sentenced by a US judge on Tuesday to one year of home confinement for lying to federal agents investigating the BALCO doping scandal, according to media reports. Graham triggered a huge steroid scandal by anonymously sending the US Anti-Doping Agency a syringe with a then-undetectable steroid that was traced back to the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative (BALCO), a San Francisco-area company. Jamaican-born Graham formerly trained disgraced sprinters Marion Jones, Tim Montgomery and Justin Gatlin.
