Between 2005 and 2007, there were 31 cases of rape, Justice Minister Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici told Parliament yesterday.

Answering a question by Labour MP Carmelo Abela, the minister said there were seven cases in 2005, 13 in 2006 and 11 in 2007.

Twenty five cases were pending in court. Four rapists were given a suspended sentence, one was fined and one was imprisoned.
