A total of 1,858 people were struck off the unemployment register between October 2007 and last month because they were unavailable or unwilling to work.

Another 1,314 persons were removed from the register, during the same period, for failing to attend an interview with their employment adviser, for refusing an ETC scheme or an employment opportunity.

Moreover, 424 were removed for turning down the free training offered by the corporation, while 120 were employed while registering for work and claiming unemployment benefits so they were struck off.

The ETC invites the public to report similar cases of irregular and illegal employment on free-phone 8007 6501 or by sending an e-mail to etc@gov.mt. Callers can remain anonymous.
