Maltese boy's painting at UNEP climate change campaign

A painting by Andrew Bartolo, 15, will feature in Paint for the Planet, an exhibit and auction of children's art to launch the global United Nations campaign "UNite to Combat Climate Change".

The event is being organised by UNEP and features 27 original works from its International Children's Painting Competition. Showcasing children's fears and hopes for the planet, the paintings are a powerful plea from children for leadership on climate change before it is too late.

“I wanted to share my feelings on the critical, international problem of global warming by painting a scene that, though slightly extreme, gives an insight into a possible future, one where animals lose their homes and are forced to migrate to unfamiliar territories,” said Andrew.

He was replying to questions by Fiona Galea Debono (See video).

The auction will be held this Saturday. www.unep.org/paint4planet

I have known Andrew ever since he started doing Judo at a very young age. Although I am plesantly surpirsed at this piece of good news, given that I was never aware of his artistic talents and his love of the envrionment, on the other hand it was to be expected. Andrew is one who has his feet firmly on the ground, knows exactly what he wants in life and I am positively sure that he will get there in due course.

Although he does not need to assert himself, he is always humble and is a reliable team player.

He is definitely a worthy ambassador for our Country.

All of us at Tigne' Judo Club are proud of him.

We wish him well

Andrew, even before seeing your painting, I think you are an amazing young man. Your heart is obviously in the right place and you are very articulate. I admire that in somene so young. Gosh, an impressive ambassador for my country at such a young age. My world feels brighter today thanks to you. Thanks Andrew. Keep up the good work. I will keep my eyes peeled wide open for you and wish you all that is best for now and in the future.
