'Herceptin' decision welcomed
The Nationalist Party has welcomed the government announcement that Herceptin is to be procured by the health service for the treatment of breast cancer.
Herceptin is prescribed to patients suffering level three cancer who would have undergone surgery. Some 40 women are expected to benefit every year.
The PN said this was a decision which reflected the government’s social conscience.
It is expected to cost the government €32,000 per patient, or €1.3 million per year.

Readers may wish to stay tuned for the film “Living Proof” on TV or in theatres when it becomes available. This film was broadcast on cable TV this Sunday in the US, and it is based on the true story of researcher Dr. Dennis Slamon who helped develop Herceptin.
