Video: New Lufthansa Technik facility fast taking shape

The building of new hangars for Lufthansa Technik Malta is in an advanced stage and one of the hangars will receive its first aircraft in December, company officials told Finance Minister Tonio Fenech during a tour this afternoon.

The project - a €60m investment being made jointly with the Maltese government - was taken in hand in June last year. It has involved the building of three hangars and and an administration building. Lufthansa Technik Malta currently services A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft, but two of the new hangars will each accommodate the bigger A330 and A340 aircraft. The other can take up to three of the smaller A320s.

Chief executive Louis Giordimaina said Lufthansa Technik Malta would increase its workforce to 500 workers by the end of this year and 750 in two years' time. It currently employs just over 400.
