The University Library and the ICT Faculty are organising a workshop entitled 'Introduction to the multi-disciplinary publishing house Springer and the online platform Springer Link. Over 1,700 journals and 28,000 e-books at your fingertips' on October 29 at 10 a.m. at the Stator Laboratory, Rm 602, Department of Statistics and Operations Research.

During the workshop, the representative of Springer Link will explain the content of the database, the search techniques, and facilitate quick and easy access to the research material. Hands-on practice will be provided.

The Department of Chemistry is holding the fourth National Chemistry Symposium on November 15 at the University. This biennial event provides a unique opportunity for chemists and researchers to publicly present papers describing work they have carried out in Malta, including undergraduate or postgraduate research projects, and to discuss developments on the subject of chemistry in Malta and elsewhere.

Proposed papers and posters are to be submitted by October 30. The University will publish abstracts of papers accepted for presentation. Contributors are also encouraged to submit a full paper for publication in Xjenza, the journal of the Malta Chamber of Scientists, which is co-sponsoring the event together with the University.

Prof. Peter Leibl from the Department of Precision and Micro Mechanics, Munich University of Applied Sciences, Germany, will deliver a public lecture entitled 'The beauty and value of the German design' on Friday from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Engineering Lecture Theatre.

Prof. Leibl holds patents for five inventions, has industrial experience and has written various publications on design. His research interests are product design, design to cost, machine elements and innovation management. His presentation will include practical case studies, processes and methods to design.
