Air Malta and its caterer Sky-Gourmet are helping the Breast Care Support Group to raise breast care awareness. Air Malta's cabin crew have already been distributing pink ribbons on flights and are collecting donations to promote the group's initiatives. The pink ribbon is the international logo for breast cancer awareness.

The NGO has been active since 1989. Breast cancer has increased considerably worldwide and Malta is no exception. Around one in 10 women are diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in their lives. Recent studies have also shown that this figure is set to rise.

Besides providing practical and moral support to women diagnosed with breast cancer, the group aims to raise awareness about the importance of early detection, especially since survival rates improved if breast cancer is caught at an early stage.

The vast majority of the group's members are breast cancer survivors and all their work is voluntary. The group relies on donations and sponsorships to fund its campaigns.

Air Malta's support forms part of its 'Committed to the community' initiative.
