Farrugia just misses out on a medal

Clive Farrugia just missed out on a medal on the final day of the Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune, India when he finished fourth overall in the skeet competition yesterday.

Farrugia, who started the day in fifth place with 67 clays, boosted his podium chances with a strong showing in the last two rounds of the preliminary stage. Hitting scores of 22 and 24 Farrugia qualified for the final in second place on 113, just one short of leader Rory Warlow, of Britain.

However, in the barrage Farrugia faltered, hitting a modest 18 to finish joint-fourth with Daniel Shacklock, of the Isle of Men, and Australia's Anthony Sottosanti.

A shoot-off ensued and Farrugia recovered composure to win it at the second attempt and finish fourth.

Warlow took gold on 135, just one better than second-placed Georgios Kazakos, of Cyprus. Ben Wilson, of Scotland, claimed bronze on 133.
