Rabat opted for a tactical game, using all their experience to subdue a young and lively Qormi side in the Super Cup final.

As a result, play in the first quarter of an hour took place mainly in midfield, until the 18th minute when Rabat forced two consecutive short corners from which they forged ahead. It was a controversial goal by Jason Vella who fired a rising hit into the top left corner. Protests by the Qormi players proved futile and the goal was allowed to stand.

Qormi almost equalised on 31 minutes but a tap-in by Phillip Magri just missed the upright. Rabat then wasted a chance to double the score, Owen Piscopo saving Qormi with a vital clearance. Rabat were now showing the finer touches and before half-time, they had another chance when Jason Vella's effort went wide.

In the second half, Qormi went all out to equalise but Rabat were superior on their counter-attacks and it was no surprise when Josef Antonelli tapped in goal no.2.

Qormi kept fighting for every ball though and pulled one back on 66 minutes from a short corner action which saw Daniel Micallef beat Ian Azzopardi with a scorcher.

With a few seconds remaining, Qormi won another short corner but they failed to take advantage, much to the relief of their opponents.
