Lecture on history teaching

For the seventh year, the History Teachers' Association (HTA Malta) is presenting a lecture on history teaching by a prominent history pedagogist in Europe.

This year, the guest will be the leading history pedagogist, Christine Counsell. The speaker is a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Education at the University of Cambridge and the editor of the journal Teaching History and other textbook series in history teaching.

During the lecture entitled What Do We Want Students To Do With Historical Change and Continuity? Reconnecting With Subjective And Temporal Experience, Ms Counsell will focus on central concepts in the teaching of history and how these can be delivered in the classroom.

During the lecture, the HTA (History Teaching Association) will be launching its new Maltese history textbook From The Coming of the Knights To EU Membership. Under the editorship of Yosanne Vella, 10 history teachers have worked to produce a modern textbook on local history, focusing on skills and concepts. The full colour textbook is targeted for students taking the history Matsec examination.

The lecture will be held on Wednesday, October 29, at 5.45 p.m. at the National Curriculum Centre, Ħamrun. Teachers and the public are cordially invited.
