Shooter Derek Bonanno reached the final in Double Trap but missed out on a place on the podium after finishing fifth as another day of competitions from the Common-wealth Youth Games was held yesterday in Pune, India.

Bonanno had rounds of 36, 39 and 34 to make the cut for the barrage as the shooter with the fifth best score. In the final, Bonanno was unable to improve his position after hitting 34 to finish behind fourth-placed Morgan Scott, of Wales (148), with a score of 143.

India's Asher Gusti Noria took the gold medal after targeting 180. South Africa's Philip Ziegler Smith was second, 172, and Britain's Chester Cobb, third, 167.

In track and field, Martina Xuereb took part in the 400m final. The 17-year-old completed the one-lap race in 56.51 secs to finish eighth.

Zambia's Rachael Nachula won the gold medal in 52.97. India's Raju Poovamma Machettira was second, 55.17, and Rabecca Nachula, also of Zambia third in 55.20.

In the long jump, Andrew Cassar Torreggiani finished seventh in Group A with a best jump of 6.41m and Andy Grech eighth in Group B with a leap of 6.32m. In the 110m hurdles heats, Michael Sullivan dashed home fifth in 16.75 and Dorianne Micallef was also fifth in the 200m heats in 26.75.

In the women's 4x100m relay final, Francesca and Martina Xuereb, Micallef and Marija Sciberras finished seventh after clocking 49.13. India took gold in a Games record of 46.27.
