Three migrants rescued - boat heads for Italy
Picture: AFM
Three irregular migrants - a woman and two children - have been brought to Malta after being rescued by the AFM.
The police said the three were landed at Hay Wharf.
Informed sources said the AFM intercepted a boat carrying about 30 migrants off Delimara this morning. All the migrants refused assistance other than the woman and her two children who were transferred to a patrol boat.
Another patrol boat is monitoring the migrants' boat as it heads towards Italy.

The more the merrier.
Welcome, visitors and make yourselves at Home, and by the way everything is on the House, that right all`s Free, but please do not tell others, as we cannot cope with all of you coming here at once.
Please, I have one question, to our Amed Forces, Is it possible to you drop me off, onto Crete this weekend? They say it`s very nice over there.
I hear you are now running an efficient Hop On, Hop Off Service.
For your attention pls, I would prefer my Beer to be really cold, thanks.
Bless you all, you are all such Gentlemen

Shame on the Eu countries for not accepting or even attempt to say that they will accept migrants. They don't care if Malta and Italy share all the burden. What an injustice. Shame on them indeed. I think the Maltese in their vast and vast majority are totally fed up with this situation. At least Italy is very big and once on land, the migrants can branch out to other places. In Malta, they cannot go anywhere because they are turned back.

Nice to see this becoming a shuttle service now, choosing where to be dropped off. Now that will bring on more 'customers'.

What upsets me most. we have so many illegal immigrants coming here and yet none of the EU mention or work to capture the human traffickers.

30 people on a cruise- intercepted by AFM - no documents no identity ( already an offence in itself )
Be on a pleasure boat in local territory and fail to give deatils to an AFM patrol boat and see what happens
Passengers asked if they need assistance ??
No Thanks all ok. except that 3 passengers would like to droped off in Malta.
AFM Skipper replies- Sure no problem , hop on madame, you are more than welcome.
'Get my luggage?'
No need to ,madame , it is all taken care off on arrival in Malta.

Why are we so naive?
Can't we understand that these illegal immigrants are taking us for a ride. They are quite astute and cunning!
Everything is worked perfectly according to their plans.
Let us not be used by these people. They must be talking among themselves and say how stupid we must be for not recognizing their scam! ! !
It's all a scam, and we unwittingly are part of this scam !
Quo vadis Malta?

I suspect you might be right Alan Meadows. This could well be a case of a pre-arranged plan to 'drop off' this woman and two children to meet up with relatives already in Malta.

Incredible!!!!
Now they are stopping, first to Malta, leave a few who have probably their families here, and then they proceed!!!

Nice photo for the family album. Later on they will recall of their rescue by the Maltese AFM. “Simba do you remember when we were on a small boat and then this big boat came and took us to some Island called Malta?”

This incident only confirms my suspicion that these people traffickers who are making big money, cynically include a few children and women/pregnant women, to ensure rescue in case of bad weather. What is being overlooked is the fact that "people trafficking" is a very lucrative criminal activity, and by ensuring that these boat people are picked up by Malta when they are in trouble, is only increasing the demand for this illicit service. Frontex was the cherry on the criminal's cake. All that was missing is an official reception desk run by Frontex! If the woman and two children had formed part of a family on the boat, would they have wanted to be separated? Or was it all arranged by satellite phone for them to join up with some relative already in MaltaJ

The title to this article is misleading or worse. How can you rescue someone from a perfectly seaworthy boat which continues on to Italy?
The truth is that we have now become such a soft target that these people just call the AFM to get dropped of where it best suits them.

In my view what is happening is that Italian patrol boats intercept these illegal boats in our waters on their way to Italy and call our AFM to pick them up. We should provide them with essential needs and let them proceed to their destination. The Italian patrol boats has no business being in our waters. We would have been better of had we follow this line.

WHY WERE THEY PERSUADED TO COME TO MALTA INSTEAD OF LEFT TO CONTINUE ON THEIR WAY TO ITALY?

Now this is humanity, letting them go where they want to go. If what phil press is saying happens, than we know burden sharing MIGHT not work voluntarily.

Wait for it. The Italians will say it is the Maltese responsibility. Because they off loaded 3, and forwarded the remainder.
