Speaker upholds Sant's complaint

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Louis Galea, yesterday upheld a prima facie breach of privilege complaint raised yesterday by former Labour leader Alfred Sant against Communications Minister Austin Gatt.

During Tuesday's sitting, Dr Sant denied claims by Dr Gatt in Parliament that he (Dr Sant) had information about the Mitts hacking inquiry and had tried to spin the story to a newspaper so as to mislead investigations.

Dr Galea referred the case to the Privileges Committee of the House of Representatives for its consideration.
