The Maltimanija series of workbooks has become a household name for developing primary schoolchildren’s proficiency in the Maltese language and in helping them reach targets set by the national curriculum. Maltimanija, published by Klabb Kotba Maltin, consists of 21 workbooks catering for the different levels of primary education, ranging from kindergarten to Year 6.
The tasks set in these 32-page workbooks are closely related to the explanation at the beginning of every lesson. Pupils as well as parents find these clear explanations very helpful. This makes the child more confident in working out the tasks, thus promoting independent learning. Unlike many other workbooks, Maltimanija avoids small print and cramming many tasks on one page, thus making the layout of the series very pupil-friendly.
Core workbooks from kindergarten to Year 6 levels
There are 13 workbooks. One is for kindergarten children and uses exciting funbook-type activities to develop the basic skills necessary at this level. The first workbook in the Year 1 set of two focuses on letter formation. The second book uses the thematic approach to build up vocabulary linked to three different themes: toys, animals and the family.
The first workbook in the Year 2 to Year 6 sets of two targets grammar and spelling points which are explained in a very simple and clear manner. The second workbook in these sets aims at widening vocabulary and enhancing writing skills. The illustrations by Roberta Azzopardi complement the tasks in these workbooks.
Creative writing and comprehension workbooks from Year 3 to Year 6 levels
These workbooks, attractively illustrated by Maria DeGabriele, are the latest exciting addition to the Maltimanija series.
The creative writing workbooks are designed to enhance writing skills by introducing pupils to many different writing forms, such as keeping a diary, planning a story, giving instructions, drafting letters and reports, writing scripts for the stage and different kinds of poems, taking biographical and autobiographical notes and summarising articles.
The comprehension workbooks consist of stimulating fiction and non-fiction texts followed by practical and varied comprehension activities. These books are designed to encourage children to read and understand different types of texts. Furthermore, the fiction extracts have been carefully selected from popular Maltese children’s authors in order to nurture a love for reading in Maltese. The topics of the non-fiction extracts are appealing and range from history and geography to science and the environment.
All 21 workbooks are available from leading bookshops and stationeries at the price of €2.50. More information may be obtained by phone on 2149 7046 or online: www.midseabooks.com, clicking on the Maltimanija section.
