Hungary beat Malta by solitary goal

Hungary beat Malta 1-0 in a 2010 World Cup Group One qualifier at Ta'Qali this evening.

The only goal came from a Sandor Torghelle header in the 23rd minute.

Hungary was in control for most of the match but did not dominate, enabling Malta to hold its own.

The Maltese were, however, unable to create any real chances to score.

Hungary came close to scoring again twice in the second half. Huszti's effort from a corner was punched to safety by Maltese goalkeeper Justin Haber and a powerful firt-timer, also by Huszti went just wide.

The match was watched by a crowd of some 7,000.

Referee: Johannes Valgeirsson (Iceland).

If i heard correctly Dusan Ftizel said that he is going to spend some relaxing time with his family and than decide if he is going to relax.
What is the MFA waiting for, first he says that he is happy if we lose 4-0 and now this.
Kick him out and find a a new manager/coach who is Maltese and has his country at his heart.

I was present at yersterday's game.

the ONLY people that should be praised are the people who went to support the team at ta qali.

First of all the MFA need to change many things :
a) The score board looks more like a notice board, it;s a shame that the time does not appear because it's small, the substitutions are neither shown in this board.

b) The ball boys : there were plenty of occasions where the ball boys were playing with the ball or fighting with each other for the ball, and the players waiting that someone gave them a ball.

c) DISCIPLINE from the players, there are certain players who drink beer and smoke..is this not supposed to be the national team?

d) We should get a Maltese coach

Mr.Grech I do not know you but i will say what I have to say to you. You yourself are not a
professional at all because after all these years ( I presume ) working in the catering sector
you have not learnt to keep your mouth shut. You can keep your mind at rest that having read
your comments these 2 players will never visit your bar again. I would also appreciate a lot if
you let me know the name of your bar so I may not be tempted to pay you a visit. Rajt ma rajtx
smajtx u ma smajtx if you know what I mean my dear friend.

@ Mr. Grech
While appreciating your feedback, I beleive that it is nether professional nor ethical to say certain comments. But once they have been said you should pass this information on to the MFA so that appropriate action can be taken against them
C.Camenzuli (on 16/10/08)
Noticed most of the messages listed. Definitely we have an inflated Premier League being given attention MORE than it deserves and at times media colleagues ignore other disciplines where their athletes really make Malta proud. Make an analysis of what happened in the Youth Commonwealth Games in India where you have athletes finishing up in 2nd., 5th, 8th places from 71 countries. YES 71 commonwealth countries .
And by the way, all credit to South End Core supporters. However if they are real Ultras, its time that they criticize the players as other ultras do when results are not achieved. Seeing the way how SEC pampers our players even on the eve of the match is even worse as if they are ballerinas on a stage only waiting for their applause and 'encore'.
The players ARE to blame. Does the S E C has the minimal guts to blame them......
John Grech (on 16/10/08)
Will you please stop blaming the coach. 2 of the players who played yesterday evening where drinking at my bar monday night at 2am.
Bertu Cassar (on 16/10/08)
Another Defeat, I was at Ta' Qali yesterday and the crowds are getting less and less. The morale is Low. Individually the players are adequate but as a team we are hopeless.
I have many questions I would like to ask the coach,
Why didn't we start with our best players?
What is this obsession with playing Terence upfront?
Michael had 1 good match against Man UTD and a good cup run with coventry last season but when he plays with Malta we all expect too much from him and he is selfish and he thinks he can build an attack single handedly when in fact he cannot.

Our back four where more like a back 2 in the begining, what a waste of substitution to insert rodrick briffa as a sub and not in the starting lineup.

The ballboys where a disgrace, no control, how are these chosen? Malta we are always behind you but we need more team time.

L. Coppini (on 16/10/08)
What a pathetic game! 1-0 down and we hardly passed the half way line for the first 35 minutes of the second half against not exactly the greatest team in Europe. There's something seriously wrong. No confidence, no determination. The only positive is the south end core who never give uo and continued their support throughout the game. If the team was as committed as the SEC we would have surely got a positive result.
T Farrugia (on 16/10/08)
the main problem of malta last night was the attacking. they had a few moments were they had potential to cause damage but each time malta attacked crosses went out wide!!!! defensively the team played well but then they rarely got the ball up front. malta is rarely psoing any real danger in attacks
Dr Emmy BEZZINA, LL.D., (on 16/10/08)
MALTA should have a restructured MFA + a local Coach who will have all the perks of a foreign Coaco except for the all important factor that hopefully he will be a motivated LOCAL who will have SPIRIT in HIM to lash out at some of the effeminate players if the latter do not play till they almost drop dead.

Under this Coach,Malta has been going from one lack-lustre performance to a succeeding one.Our players now appear to be demoralised. I had recommended a moratorium, namely that MALTA should quit the international football scene for the next quarter of a century until we have a fully-fledged,specifically brought up from toddlerhood a Team that at least can play international football for a thorough competitive match. However I imagine the business interests would be too much to sacrifice.Hence let us scrap this foreign Coach and concentrate on a well-intended Team under a spirited Coach with the same working conditions this current foreigner has.Action must be taken now.Furthermore STOP Idiotic Media pampering to our Panzies and no ulterior stupid Press Conferences! At least we do not keep faring worse and worse....Maltese must be proud of their Team: ALPHA.
David Aloisio (on 15/10/08)
We need a Maltese coach.
Mark Spiteri (on 15/10/08)
Blaming the coach was not the reason why we did not score again or why we lost.
You must have been waiting for the refs final whistle to e so quickly to state what you stated.

How many times does one have to be told that we have our limitations and will remain
like that even if we got Mauronho or Ferguson as a coach.

So lets not be clever and point fingers at anyone.Players did there best.Supporters gave there share as well and lets just move on and concentrate on the next match, who knows we might get lucky and pull off a surprise.
Matthew Delicata (on 15/10/08)
What a wet blanket, I watched the first half and the two teams were quite equal. There was an improvement form the other two games, obviously Hungary are of a different calibre from Denmark and Portugal but Malta did a good job. That is I think the best we can hope for considering the time, effort and money we invest in sport!
Ivan Delia (on 15/10/08)
Dusan Fitzel you should resign immediately....your position is now expired...we need a new coach with fresh ideas.
btw well done all the maltese players..you played all well
especially micheal mifsud our maltese falcon.
C.Camenzuli (on 15/10/08)
And yet another defeat ! and yet another game without scoring a goal. The worst is that this is the 6th consecutive defeat under Dusan Fitzel ......
And from ranking nr. 146 before the last two defeats, the future is rather dull. Yes it is.
