Saturday morning BirguFest events cancelled
The Birgu By Candlight festival will be held on Saturday evening.
Vittoriosa Council has cancelled BirguFest activities due to be held on Saturday morning as a mark of respect for Labour MP Karl Chircop, whose funeral will be held on that day.
BirguFest will span Friday to Sunday. The highlight on Friday evening, from 7 p.m. will be a 'Risottata' organised by Execoor Ltd. This will be Malta's largest cookery event, featuring the world's biggest cooking pot. Risotto will be served for up to 5,000 people, with the proceeds going to Dar tal-Providenza. Throughout the day there will be historical re-enactments and displays including a march by the AFM band and a concert by Freddie Portelli to round up the evening.
The popular Birgu By Candlight will take place on Saturday evening from 8 p.m. but historical re-enactments will start at 10.30 a.m.. They continue throughout Sunday and events close with a display by the police silent drill team at 8 p.m. and a concert by well known Maltese singers at Victory Square.
