Saviour Grech, 56 of Mqabba , was today convicted of trying to bribe a driving examiner and given a five-month jail terms suspended for 18 months.

The court heard that Mr Grech’s son owned buses and minibuses. Mr Grech had tried to bribe the examiner, Raymond Deguara, so that one of his son’s employees, Anthony Scerri, could pass the test to drive a bus.

Mr Grech had tried to hand a banknote to Mr Deguara, who refused it and failed Mr Scerri. He also reported the case to the Transport Authority.
