Khosla scores 110 for Krishna

The Globalair League continued last weekend with two other matches at the Marsa oval.

In the first game, Krishna won the toss and elected to bat first against Melita.

Nowell Khosla opened the batting and played an incredible innings, scoring 110 runs, his tally including 13 4s and a 6.

The Melita fielders could have stopped Khosla earlier but somehow they could not hold on to the ball. The best opportunity came when Khosla was on 54.

Had Melita stopped him, the difference in runs would have left a significant change in the final outcome.

Krishna went on to total 164 runs with Joy Ghoseroy the only other batsman making it to double figures, 23. For Melita, Andy Lenard, Andy May and Justin Brooke all took a wicket each.

In reply, Melita could only manage 100 runs.

Lenard was their top scorer with 30 runs, Tim Edwards had 20 and Tim Wheeler 17. A superb bowling performance came from Alan Kyle. He had Melita in trouble, claiming five wickets for 14 runs from five overs.

Kyle's feat included an amazing four wickets from four balls.

Krishna won the game and earned nine points at Melita's expense.

In the other game, leaders Marsa won the toss and elected to bat first against bottom-placed Overseas.

Javed Shah top-scored with his highest total to date in the competition, 66 runs.

Ronnie Sacco added 43 and Mike Caruana 24 for Marsa to round up their score to 165.

Justin Barloggio was the main wicket-taker for Overseas with three while Dax Fernandes took two.

In reply, Overseas were bowled out for 75 runs, Stuart Lloyd scoring 24 and Barloggio 25. For Marsa, Caruana took three wickets while Sarfraz Ali felled two.

Standings: Marsa 49 points, Krishna 41, Melita 17, Overseas 11.

The last day of the league will be played on Saturday with the two top sides battling it out to see who wins the title in a match starting at 11.30 a.m. Melita play Overseas in the other match at 3 p.m.

On Sunday, Marsa CC take on touring team ANT CC from Cyprus at 10.30 a.m.
