The police arrested three men and a woman after closing in on them following a lengthy drug investigation that netted eight kilos of cannabis resin and €65,000 in cash.

A 26-year-old woman from Mosta, a 32-year-old man from Birkirkara and two men from Sliema, aged 37 and 64, were arrested on Sunday afternoon following weeks of surveillance, the police said yesterday.

Arraignments are expected in the coming days pending further police investigations. The four were arrested by drug squad police who shadowed the suspects and observed a drug exchange taking place in Sliema on Sunday, the police added.

The police stepped in and found the cannabis in two cars. The cash was retrieved from a Sliema residence, a car and one of the four suspects. A small amount of cocaine was in the haul.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke appointed experts to help her in the inquiry.
