A court has upheld a request by telecommunications company Go for Mermaid Media Entertainment Ltd to stop advertising Go as a sponsor of the upcoming Malta Television Awards.

In a statement two weeks ago, Go denied that it is sponsoring this year's edition of the Malta Television Awards, as claimed by the organisers of the event, and threatened to take legal action to protect its interests. In fact, on October 1, the company filed an application for a prohibatory injunction against the organisers.

The First Hall of the Civil Court, presided over by Mr Justice Joseph Azzopardi, took into consideration that last year the two companies had reached an agreement without any problems. This year, negotiations had taken place mostly by e-mail and at a point it seemed that the two companies had almost reached agreement.

For some reason or other, Go decided that no agreement had been reached and did not want its logo to be included as a sponsor of the event.

The court, therefore, upheld the request made by Go and ordered Mermaid Media Entertainment Ltd to stop using the company's logo.
