MCAST selection of ICT course providers stopped
The Ministry of Education and MCAST said this afternoon that the selection of teaching centres to provide ICT courses had been frozen pending a court case and a police investigation.
MCAST had been in the process of selecting teaching centres since the number of applicants for the courses exceeded places available at MCAST itself.
The ministry and MCAST said that after a selection board made its recommendations to the Contracts Committee, a tenderer filed an appeal and also filed an application in court.
Furthermore, the police had been requested by the Opposition spokesman for education, Evarist Bartolo, to investigate the selection process.
Both the court case and the police investigation were still pending.
The ministry and MCAST said they wanted to assure the students that they would be given the same number of hours and the same quality of teaching as the other students who had already started their course.

The process has been stopped so how can you sit and write that Evarist is trying to provide education....he's actually stopped it.
Is he really thinking about those students who's lives are now in limbo for yet more time as they continue to wait for answers?
put the INVESTIGATION on hold and start getting these students back into the classrooms immediatly. Lets get the priorities right Mr Bartolo.
also part of his job is to ensure that our taxes are being spent wisely and efficiently not ending up who knows where.
I heard many things of what goes around the scenes in few training providers (not all) where everything happens rather education.
Hope a serious honest investigation is carried out.
Instead of getting together and hailing this experiment as the way forward for Malta to climb out of an ever increasing government deficit by getting help from the private sector by farming out problems at a capped cost, without any need for government investment, we have the opposition slinging mud all over the place in order to gain political points.
Unless it is being used by someone with a hidden agenda and it is serving as the proverbial sacrificial flag waver, oblivious to its fate and serving unwittingly its commercial masters.
And where do the students come in in all of this?? At the bottom of the sacrificial pile!!

Time is ticking and we are already well into the term yet still many students are in the dark as to what their future holds. That is nothing short of a disgrace as the student should always ALWAYS come first and recent events such as the lecturers strike and this fiasco have placed serious questions on whether or not that is correct.
Mr Bartolo, shouldnt you be ensuring that all students are recieving the education they deserve as opposed to playing party politics and scratch the barrell for some mud to sling at the opposition?
