While I have deepest sympathy for the immigrants who lost their belongings in the tent city fire, I cannot but react angrily on reading of so many cases in The Times where residents of this centre are caught doing some crime and arraigned in our courts.

It is becoming an almost everyday occurrence to read about this in the paper - in one issue this week there were the articles Accused Of Having Counterfeit Money and Remanded In Custody. There have been countless other such pieces.

While I readily admit that we have our own criminals doing that and worse, I do not see the need to import more crime to our shores! I strongly believe that any immigrants convicted of crimes should be sent back to face jail in their own countries. The cost of investigating the case and arraigning them is already a strain on police and court time and resources. Why should they be a burden on the limited resources of our country when we have more than enough to gripe about and the country is so short of money?

To conclude, yes many of these people truly warrant sympathy and need help but we should get rid of and show no sympathy at all towards those among them who are criminals - they do not deserve to live on our handouts and enjoy the peace of our country. They should be put on the first plane home.
