More heats from U*Bet championship

All ten races at the Marsa racetrack yesterday were U*Bet championship heats for Swedish horses from the Gold and Silver divisions.

Brian Zammit was the meeting's best driver with three wins. All races were over the distance of 2,140m.

In the main race on the card, the Gold 1, favourite New Kid in Town, driven by Carmelo Farrugia, doubled its pace considerably in the straight for home to emerge winner notwithstanding the frantic surge of Fraek the eventual runner-up.

Charlie Smitt and Whiz Kid were third and fourth respectively.

Tough East, under the direction of Darren Mizzi, had no difficulty at all to win the Gold 2 championship heat. Its strong dash along the last few metres earned this horse a five-length victory. Gingoro passed the post second and Massi Pioneer got the third placing. This was Tough East's sixth victory of the season at Marsa.

In Gold 3, an attack initiated some 600m away from the post enabled Lajos Useful, controlled by Anthony Bartolo, to register its second win on the trot.

At the finish, Lajos Useful was three lengths ahead of Noble Spirit while BWT Mensroom was further back in third place.

Yesterday's meeting was characterised by comfortable victories for the winners. The Gold 4 event was no exception.

Here, it was the turn of Brian Zammit's Emil Brebro to cross the line first, some five lengths in front following a very strong dash along the last 150 metres.

Wingait Geforce was second and Arragon Crown third.

Royal Pointer was on the verge of registering its second consecutive victory but this trotter was pipped to the post by G Force Son, directed by Zammit. Rybo Celion was third behind Royal Pointer.

The next meeting at Marsa is scheduled for next Sunday.
