Data released from leading car website Savemoneyoncars.co.uk confirms the consumer trend towards smaller cars.
The respected website released its search data this week and revealed what the website's visitors have been looking for over the past 30 days.
One of the best examples of an increasing customer interest in smaller and cheaper cars is the fate of the perennial favourite, the Ford Focus, which for the past 12 months held its position as the top search on the website, only to be usurped by the smaller Ford Fiesta throughout September and pushed down to the number two position.
Similarly other popular searches on the website include other petite cars such as the Vauxhall Corsa at number three, Volkswagen Golf at number four, Renault Clio at number five, Ford Ka at number eight.
While the number of website visitors continues to grow, the focus of their searches is changing from traditional large family cars and executive cars to small cars and city cars.
Of the top 10 most popular searches, six are mini-segment cars. Additionally, all but three of the top 10 models feature on the leading advisory website, thegreencarwebsite.co.uk due to variants producing 130g/km CO2 or less.
This corroborates the recent data released by The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) data which revealed that the small car sector was the only one to grow in September.
Similarly Corsa, Fiesta and Focus make up some of the most popular new car registrations throughout September according to SMMT data.
