Three men have been charged with threatening and assaulting five police officers who intervened to break up a fight between them and another two men.
The uniforms of the assaulted policemen ended up in tatters and bloodstained after officers were hit with belts and stones by the three drunk men, police inspector Ramon Mercieca told Magistrate Edwina Grima.
Manuel Schembri, 46, Reuben Schembri, 25, and a 17-year-old were charged with threatening and assaulting a police sergeant and four constables who intervened to calm down the situation when a fight broke out in Ħamrun at 5.15 a.m. yesterday morning.
The men also pleaded not guilty to slightly injuring Kevin Gatt and Darren Galea.
The men were granted bail against a personal guarantee of €5,000 each. Lawyer David Gatt represented the accused.
