Racehorse put down
A racehorse had to be put down after bolting at the old racetrack in Marsa and breaking the jockey's legs in the process. The horse crashed into a car, severely injuring itself, and the poor animal was then unable to get back on its feet.
Police called to the scene assisted the man and summoned the government vet to examine the horse. But the animal was put down because of the injuries it sustained. The jockey hails from Gudja. The police are holding further investigations.

the jokey who had been seriously injured is my father. Cars in that part of the old race course are strictly not permitted. My father was only training the horse usual but some people were racing cars and the second car could not see my father coming because of the dust raised by the first car.

Just a comment to Mr.F Farrugia, I disagree with you that in this event there was animal entertaining. The jockey was only offering some relaxation to the horse from his stables. I must also say that I am a vegeterian so I do love animals. But decisions must be taken in the interest of human beings as well. last but not least the vehicle should not have entered the track whether the driver is foreigner or Maltese especially if he is an employee. Such a track is used for training and NOT car racing!!

Poor jockey and horse. They had to find a car coming from the opposite direction to cause this accident, when it's the least expected. The golf management should have informed their employees (especially as they are foreigners) not to use this road, cause it is a racetrack. Does the motor vehicle insurance cover such an accident ? I wonder

Is it permissable for a vehicle to be driving on to a racetrack, which is earmarked for horse racing and training. This racetrack leads to nowhere. So I ask, where was this car coming from ? Golf course ?????????

I hope that in such situations, decisions are taken in the best interests of the animal, the horse. And no other interests! It is the animal which is the vulnerable party in such sad events as animal-entertainment!
