Nigerian to be charged with importing cocaine

A 33-year-old Nigerian is expected to be arraigned in court tomorrow, charged with the importation of cocaine.

The man was arrested by the Drug Squad yesterday afternoon in a joint police-customs operation. He had just flown in from Valencia.

The police said this evening that the man was stopped for a medical examination because of suspicious behaviour. He was found to have a number of drug capsules in his stomach.

Duty magistrate Audrey Demicoli is holding an inquiry.

@Joe Vassallo
How could you then prove that he had imported the drug in his stomach?

How come it is always the (generally) foreign couriers who are caught?
Am I the only who thinks that there must be a whole network of local criminals who would then sell and distribute the drug.
It is of course important to catch the couriers, but why do the authorities seem to to stop there - that is only half the solution.
Why not, for example, replace the drug with a harmless substance and track the movements of the courier - the poeple he inevitably has to hand the drugs over to. That way, even the sellers/distibutors are caught.
