Habitat protection has been extended to the whole of Ta' Cenc, MEPA said this afternoon.

It said that Wied Moqbol and Benghajsa Point have been declared protected areas within the Natura 2000 Network, while protection to Ta' Cenc has been extended to include the plateau.

Natura 2000 is a network of protected areas across the European Union.

MEPA explained that the Wied Moqbol and Benghajsa Point area covers coastal cliffs, in view of their seabird communities.

The Special Protection Area at Ta’ Ċenċ has been extended to the whole of the plateau area.

"With respect to provisions of the Habitats Directive, the whole area of Ta’ Ċenċ, including both the cliffs and the plateau, has been declared as a Special Area of Conservation in view of the various natural habitats and plant species found in the area," MEPA said.
