Immigrant, prisoner costs
An immigrant in detention, last year, cost the government €18.29 (Lm7.85) a day, while a prisoner cost €50.52 (Lm21.69) a day.
Justice Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici made the comparison in reply to a parliamentary question by Adrian Vassallo (MLP).

That is nice to hear NOT that is €128.03 a week , and a maltese family of 4 , 2 adults and 2 children has to live on €112.00 how come they enter Malta illegaly and yet they are better off , I BELEAVE CHARITY SHOULD STARTS AT HOME

Poor Hon Vassallo... This centre-left politician needs to be shown the way out from the MLP. Hope Joseph Muscat does not get blinded! A centre left party is for centre left people, not for arci-conservatives like Vassallo.

We've had nearly 11,500 ILLEGAL immigrants while only a few have been sent back or taken by other countries. This was stated by none other than the UNHCR lawyers earlier on.
Rounding up the figure to 11,000 x €30 which was the sum previously given means that nothing less than €120,450,000 is being spend every year from our taxes on ILLEGAL immigrants.
This obviously does not include free lodging, electricity, water, telephone cards, internet, health services, three square meals a day from different menu choices, etc etc.
This is apart from working without paying NI contributions, tax, and lowering the wages and working conditions of Maltese workers
No wonder all forms and sorts of taxes are being increased and invented for US to pay.

Some time ago, if I remember correctly in an answer to a PQ, it was said that ILLEGAL immigrants are costing US €30 daily each, nearly double the amount stated now.
Which is the correct answer?
This is OUR money which we can ill-afford being spent on ILLEGAL immigrants who have absolutely no right to be here and which the Government is failing to send on their way while boasting that it was successful in getting the agreement of the other eu members to sign a Chamberlain paper.

6,676 euros (Lm 2866) a year for every illegal migrant in malta! the mind boggles at the sum.
meanwhile we are facing the prospect of having to pay through our noses for water and electricity. The poverty line will move upwards undoubtedly. perhaps it is not too far in the future when we will have to build tent cities for homeless maltese!

A simple calculation - 18.29 x 365 (days) x 3000 (estimate no of immigrants) = Eur 20,027,550!!!
I think the government can find a better use for Eur 20million!!

To get nearer to the real burden multiply that €18.29 by 365 days and by the several thousands of illegals allegedly enriching our economy (that´s at least €6,675.85 on every illegal per year) .
So what´s the total figure thrown down the drain on these people in 2007? Is CMB afraid of disclosing the whole picture to the electorate?
This money should have been spent on chartering aircraft for the purpose of repatriation, discouraging more illegals from coming here in the process.
No wonder the government seems so worried about the country´s already dire financial situation.

Lm7.85 a day out of our TAX. Goverment should use this money to Subsidise the cost of fuel mela trow it away like this! Can someone make something out of this? What a waste and what a SHAME.
