When are we going to see some lights go up on the hill known as T'Alla w Ommu in Naxxar? Are we waiting for an accident to happen before something is done?
Patricia Falzon is so right when pointing out the complete lack of lighting on the roundabout in question. It is a typical case of Malta still not having any respect towards drivers' safety. Starting from roundabout further up that leads to the Naxxar bypass one sees all sorts of signs (some even flashing!) warning the driver of various things along the way. On that stretch of road all the way down to the intersection with the salini road there are no less than 40 road signs! And yet, one comes to the roundabout and it's in pitch darkness. Not even some kind of reflectors to help show the way around. And to add insult to injury, a huge sign to the left of the roundabout as one is going down has been crashed into and after a couple of weeks of mangled metal to the side it has now been romoved. When one remembers the two long years the road was closed due to resurfacing only to have 40 signs and a dangerous roundabout left in complete darkness, it makes one wonder if there is anybody in Malta capable of taking care of drivers' safety.

On a recent drive from Melleiha to the airport at about 8pm , I would estimate at least 80% of the street lights along the route I took were not working. That is on main roads! Something needs to be done about continuos road maintenance in every sense of the word!

I think that as far as the authorities are concerned, while driving along during a moonlit night, the drivers can sing the Moonlight Serenade to be in harmony with the surroundings.
Seriously, apart from the obligation and the liability of drivers to drive in a careful manner, the authorities are liable for damages for failing to provide lighting to make the road safe.
