HSBC Bank Malta plc and the General Workers' Union have signed a new collective agreement for non-clerical staff represented by the union. The agreement follows months of intensive negotiations between the Bank and the union.

HSBC Bank Malta CEO Alan Richards said: "We are all pleased with the outcome of these lengthy negotiations as an improved and competitive package of employee benefits has been negotiated which will benefit union members while also protecting the interest of the bank's shareholders."

GWU section secretary Cory Greenland said: "This collective agreement recognises the diligent contribution of our members to the continued success of HSBC in Malta. We are pleased that, thanks to this new agreement, our members now enjoy a better compensation package."

The new agreement provides for increased salaries taking into account inflation, better working conditions, family-friendly measures and other benefits that were approved by union members after negotiations.
