Following on the heels of the GreenPak packaging waste recovery scheme, Green Dot Malta is now focusing on providing its member base with another professional service, the WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Recycle Scheme.
"For the past five years we have believed in the ability of industry to deliver upon the recycling targets arising from Malta's membership in the European Union," said Mario Schembri, CEO of Green Dot Malta. "Following the success of GreenPak, we are the market leaders in this field and we have the right expertise to ensure a successful WEEE compliance scheme. With the backing of other European national systems, we are committed to offer our members the best possible service and this at the least possible cost. Having sorted out their waste packaging, companies are once again turning at us to solve their WEEE-related problems."
The new WEEE Recycle scheme already has the backing of major leading companies operating in the electrical and electronic sector, Green Dot Malta said in a statement.
The WEEE recycling legislation requires companies trading in electrical products to recycle a high percentage of the products they sell. This requirement covers computers, electronic toys and white goods such as fridges, ovens and washing machines.
The WEEE Recycle Scheme has been modelled on the same lines of GreenPak and therefore it is only a matter of time that recycling of such products will pick up, enabling Malta to better deliver on its environmental commitments with the EU, Green Dot said.
