Squatters ordered out of Għajn Tuffieħa barracks
Squatters in the old barracks at Għajn Tuffieħa have been slapped with an evacuation notice by the Government Property Division.
The evacuation notices, attached to 10 structures used by squatters, stipulate a one-week period in which the place has to be evacuated before enforcement action is taken.
The move follows hot on the heels of the clearance operation at Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq where caravan owners occupying public land without permission for years had to move out.

Better with squatters, than abandoned! Now vandals will take over. Stealing the iron beams (like Fort Campbell) and we lose this 1930s place the same like we are losing Fort Campbell (10 min away).
About 2 years ago I suggested to Mellieha local council, that the barracks should be turned into a crafts village (like Ta Qali). Each barrack will be offered for free period of 3 years with a condition to be restored by renter and after 3 years will turn to affordable rent

I guess if they could afford to pay for all the damages and the work done to restore it they wouldn't be squatters!!

One week. What a joke 24hrs the most, to go out. As simple as that.

Why not go a step further and return the place to its beauty by making the squatters pay for the damage caused, and the work done to restore it?
