Marsa power plant to stop by end 2015
Infrastructure Minister Austin Gatt said that the Marsa power station can continue to operate for 20,000 hours, starting from January 1, 2008, to not later than December 31, 2015, but it was not possible as yet to give a definite date of closure of the power station.
Answering a parliamentary question by Leo Brincat (MLP), Dr Gatt said it was intended to increase the capacity of Delimara power station as indicated in the Generation Plan for 2006-2015, during which period an interconnector to Sicily would be installed.
Enemalta is currently finalising talks with the tenderers for a new 100MW powerplant to be installed at Delimara by the end of 2010.

Instead of modernizing it to use gas instead of oil, we have to dismantle it and build a new one at another place because that's what the eu has ordered.
That's why we are being taxed so much for water and electricity.
The price of oil is simple pretext to increase the bills.
