Decent Work Day

The General Workers' Union and the Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin yesterday joined trade unions around the world to mark World Day for Decent Work by reaffirming their commitment to ending exploitation on the work place.

The unions appealed to the authorities to ensure that no workers are paid wages that are below what is stipulated by law.

Yes, Ingrid, it has to do with foreign workers.
If Maltese employers did not find foreign workers willing to work at reduced wages and working conditions they will have to employ Maltese workers.

A decent days work ???? The joke of the century when one thinks of all the young people working for a mere 2 euros an hour or even less. (some employers pay 1lira 25 cents of the old currency) The Maltese worker has become a slave and it has nothing to do with foreign workers, the culprits are the employers who pay measly wages and will not allow legal work to save on social contributions and THE LAWMAKERS KNOW EXACTLY WHO AND WHERE THIS IS HAPPENING. I suggest Mr Dalli takes an evening togo round every restaurant in sliema and he will find out that 90% of the young people serving him are working without any social security coverage and at veryyyyy low wages. Take a walk Mr minister.
