New sewage treatment plant commissioned
A sewage treatment plant at Ic-Cumnija (close to Anchor Bay) has been commissioned, 10 months after a similar plant was commissioned in Gozo.
The Infrastructure Ministry said the plant started operating last week and treats sewage in three phases until it is considered as being second class water. The treated sewage is then dumped into the sea but does not harm the environment
The ministry admitted that the project was completed 15 months late – mostly as a result to delays in the granting of the development permit. As a result, €150,000 from €7.97 million allocated for the project by the Italian government were lost. The Water Services Corporation has notified the consortium responsible for the project that it would act to recover this amount.
Meanwhile the contractors have submitted requests for the payment of €4.98 million for variations from the contract. The corporation has agreed to pay €1.7 million, mostly as a result of changes made necessary when MEPA changed the site of the plant after the contract was signed.
A much larger sewage treatment plant is to be built on the south-east coast of Malta, but the tender process is currently bogged down in court proceedings.

With the waste water being pumped into the sea, I haven't quite worked out if this means that anchor bay will finally be safe to swim / dive in. Maybe we will see less Richard the third fish and the magical pantyliner fish in this natural sewage trap.
I look forward to ear infection free days.

Wow! 15 months late, lost of funds and variations!!! Shouldn't this raise many eyebrows as similar projects did in the recent past. Let us hope there is the same type of hype from the media, the public and the opposition to question all this.
Another point - what happened to that Floriana Housing project which was also was not yet finished and is beyond it's deadline. Doesn't anybody question this? I only remember an article in the newspaper some months ago by the Floriana Local Council on this matter and questions remain unanswered.

An incredible sum of " 150,000 euro were lost due to delays in granting of the development permit ". May I ask ,Who was responsable for this ? He or they should be made accountable for . Dont worry man, they will be paid by you and me.

I'm not sure exactly how this works...but, wouldn't it be better to further treat this water so that it can be put back into the water system rather then just dumped back into sea? Wouldn't it be more efficient rather than having to convert new sea water into drinking water?

A new project delivered behind schedule?
So what is new?
It will be a shock to our system if in this Country, this or any such projects are delivered on time!
