A pot to feed 5,000!
A lot will be put into the pot for the opening of the Birgu by Candlelight Festival on October 17. A lot.
The organisers, Execoor, are bringing to Malta a huge pentolone which holds the Guinness Record for the largest risotto ever made - feeding 5,000 people.
It will be used in Malta to 'feed the masses' and raise funds for the Siggiewi Homes during the festival.
Into the pot will go 20 chickens, 20 kgs of beef, 90 kg of luganiga sausages, 20 kg of cheese, 300 kg of rice, 60 kg of vegetables and 120 litres of white wine to produce a culinary feast.
The big pot is made of stainless steel. It has a diameter of 3.30 metres and weighs 520 kilos. The risotto had to be stirred continuously by nine cooks using long wooden oars. Taking part in the preparation will be ITS student chefs under the watchful eyes of an Italian master chef who is accompanying the pentolone.
The pot found its way in the Guinness Book of Records with a mega cooking event on June 18, 1998 in Casorate Sempione, a North Italian town twinned to Vittoriosa. The feat was later repeated in Manchester
For the Birgu by Candlelight event, the organisers will forward €2 from each serving of risotto to Dar Tal-Providenza. Each serving will cost €3.
