The migration pact just agreed upon by the EU and practical ways in which Estonia can ease the burden of illegal migration in Malta were discussed between Foreign Affairs Minister Tonio Borg and Estonian Prime Minister Andrus Ansip in Tallinn.

Items on the agenda of the visit, which included meetings with Foreign Affairs Minister Urmas Paet, covered the facilitation of air links between the two countries and the promotion of tourism. Both sides agreed there was potential of increasing tourism, investment and cultural exhanges between the two countries.

The energy crisis, the Lisbon Treaty, Croatia's bid to join the EU and the Russia-Georgian conflict were also discussed.

Both countries agreed to support each other in their bids to host EU institutions.

Dr Borg was accompanied by the non-resident Ambassador of Malta to Estonia Laurence Grech who has just presented his credentials to Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves. Mr Grech, a former editor of The Sunday Times, is also non-resident Ambassador to Latvia and Lithuania.
