Couple injured after roof caves in

Pat Wright, 52, of Floriana and her 51-year-old husband Alex were injured when part of the roof of a residence in Isouard Street, St Paul's Bay, collapsed yesterday morning.

The police said that although the woman sustained serious injuries, her life was not in danger.

Mr Wright suffered slight injuries in the incident, which occurred when he was carrying out some maintenance works on the roof of their summer residence because water was seeping in, sources said. Mr Wright crashed down a height of one storey as the roof caved in and his wife, who was in the room underneath, got caught under the rubble that fell from the roof.

Mrs Wright was freed from under the debris by personnel from the Civil Protection Department and rushed to Mater Dei Hospital in an ambulance together with her husband, who hurt his back.

The police are investigating.
