Labour leader Joseph Muscat has set up a working group to study the role of political parties, especially his own, in Maltese society.

The group is expected to make proposals, which increase the party's relevance, now and in the future, and analyse the development of the thought process that has inspired the MLP's political action.

It will look into how this has been reflected in the economic, social and cultural changes the country has faced in the past 50 years.

The group is expected to objectively focus on the potential and limitations of this and propose guidelines that renew the party's vision, and allow it to better understand Maltese society in the global, European and Mediterranean context.

The group's members are political scientist Isabel Calleja, psychologist Vince Cassar, sociologist Josann Cutajar, journalist Aleks Farrugia, former trade unionist Anġlu Fenech, student Michela Muscat, chemical scientist Alfred Vella and economist Denise Vella. It has been appointed for two years and will be led by political economist Mario Vella.
