Pjazzetta should be safeguarded

Alternattiva Demokratika expressed hope that the Malta Environment and Planning Authority’s appeals board will refute the appeal for the proposed development at il-Pjazzetta in Sliema next Wednesday.

AD’s Sliema councillor Michael Briguglio, who successfully led a campaign against the development of il-Pjazzetta in 2003, said "both Sliema local council and Alternattiva Demokratika had objected against the proposed development. Any development at il-Pjazzetta should protect the scheduled naval clinic façade, should be of proportionate height, and should ensure that the square is embellished for pedestrians. We urge the developers to show social responsibility in the proposed development and we appeal to the MEPA appeals board to ensure that the previous MEPA decision against the proposed development is not overturned".

AD chairman Arnold Cassola added that AD has been defending residents against the proposed development since the early 1990s, when it was first proposed.
