MLP appoints group to study role of political parties
A working group to study the role of political parties, especially the Labour Party, in Maltese society and make proposals which increase the party’s relevance now and in the future has been appointed by Labour leader Joseph Muscat
The group has been tasked with analysing the development of thought which has to date inspired the MLP’s political action and how this reflected the economic, social and cultural changes the country has been through in the past 50 years.
The group’s members are political scientist Isabel Calleja, psychologist Vince Cassar, sociologist Josann Cutajar, journalist Aleks Farrugia, former trade unionist Anġlu Fenech, student Michela Muscat, chemical scientist Alfred Vella and economist Denise Vella. It has been appointed for two years and will be led by political economist Mario Vella.

I hope the study group will now comment on Joseph Muscat's jumping on the rightist anti-immigrant prejudice bandwagon.
They might comment as well on how Joseph Muscat's opposition to EU membership brought Labour where it is today: at least 25 years in the wilderness with a disastrous intermission of 22 months.

Dr J Muscat seem to be following the well trodden path of new leaders of appointing a plethora of study groups, commisions and meaningless committees. They normally produce endless reports which are eventually shelved without any effective action
Let us hope that he quickly get over this phase of universal pleasantries and tasks for everyone and concentrates instead on a tight select group of competent advisors.

The study should include shrinks and study the brain of the Maltese. They can start with my mom (PN) and my dad (MLP) and try to find out why the Maltese put their political parties before their country and important issues.

Let just hope that this report will be by far more proffesional, credible and rational than the report comisioned after the election defeat " Ir-rapport tat-telfa".
