Families urged to “weigh and analyse” what they hear
Families had their own proper ministry within the Church which would remain poor until this ministry was not owned by more and more families, Gozo Bishop Mario Grech said in a letter to Gozitan families sent on the opening of the diocesan mission, starting next Friday.
Mgr Grech expressed his appreciation at the pastoral work being done by couples in the fields of catechesis, liturgy, charity and pastoralia of the family and warned that one could never underestimate the importance of continuous formation in faith, especially the catechesis of adults.
This was because there were “many wise people who are competent in the various sciences and who seem to speak with authority. However, it is a fact that there are among us those who think that wisdom and God cannot stand together. Therefore, one should have the responsibility of weighing and analysing what he hears.”
Mgr Grech said that Christian families had to make certain decisions which were not always easy since a choice in favour of the values of the Gospel entailed a high price. “In these circumstances we are urged to feel encouraged to grow in our knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.”
He urged families to make place for God within them.

It seems that when the Church says something there is always someone who pretends not to understand. The Church has a right to inform its members how to adhere to Christ's social teaching if they want to keep their faith. What is wrong with that? Families need to be informed at least that passing scientific details are not enough to build a wholistic perspective of a life within a family.Unfortunately the wisdom of scientific giants put the economy first and the family second with the result that poor families are not being served by the economy but rather the other way round . Is it strange that families should wiegh exactly who is saying what and for what purpose or is it expected that fgamilies abide only by what conomic sharks feed them through scentific chit chat.?

It is useful to recollect that, for Catholics, Wisdom is one of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. It is through this gift - and prayer - that we may come "to grow in our knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ". As for earthly wisdom (Reason) it would be useful to refer to Pope Benedict's insistence about the inter-relation between it and Faith (Fides et Ratio). His Holiness expounded this relationship in his academic address at Ratisbonne University last year and in his discourse at the Bernardini Institute in Paris during his visit there last month. Bishop Grech's recommendations in his letter to Gozitan families are the teachings of the Catholic Church expressed through its authoritative pastors - for which we feel ever thankful.

Correct me if I'm misunderstanding but is the Gozitan bishop talking families into "conquering" other families into their own faith so to fulfill their "ministry"? Oh not much reason for concern, people are weighing & analyzing then ever before alright! Luckily times are changing & people are slowly but finally starting to wake up. God & wisdom do in fact stand perfectly together, it's the church which is interfering to give the impression of the contrary.

Are we talking about the same Maltese church that sugested the poor pay for medicines and hospital???
