Leaders Fina First march on as Ramis dent Globalair's hopes

The 11th week of the Middlesea League saw leaders Fina First and chasers Tabsat move further ahead of the rest thanks to a matching pair of 8-0 victories. Fina remain 14 points ahead of Tabsat, who now lead third-placed Globalair by the same number of points as the latter went down to Ramis.

NINE notched up a 6-2 win over Turu's Knights while the match between Centro Casalinga and Royal Shock ended four-all.

The top two teams faced the bottom two, Fina taking on penultimate side Café Ole, and Tabsat clashing with last-placed Active.

Fina made an easy job of their full-point win, taking game one 795-738 before doubling up with a 755-713 win in the second. Game three was Fina's best as they rolled a crushing 905-685 win.

Any other team would surely have deprived Tabsat of at least two points for their erratic performance. They opened the scoring with an unimpressive 661-710 result before a much better 667-839 game two win to go 4-0 ahead. Active's best chance came in game three which they lost by only 17 pins, 695-712.

Ramis claimed a 6-2 win over Globalair who lost valuable ground on the top two with this defeat. They had the more positive start, however, winning 760-741 but were then all square after the second game fell 713-735 to Ramis.

Both sides recorded lower scores in the last of the series but Ramis clinched it 657-686 to take the series points by 32 pins (2,130-2,162).

Standings: Fina 80; Tabsat 66; Globalair Travel 52; Centro Casalinga 50; Ramis 49; Royal Shock 40; Turu's Knights 34, NINE 34; Café Ole 26; Active 9.

Bowlers of the week: Sue Abela (Fina, 606); Brian Farrugia (Fina, 650).
