Health inspectors have sealed the remaining stock of two Chinese biscuit consignments dispatched within the EU and imported to the local market.

Investigations in Malta were launched after some countries found Melamine in food products, notably children's formula milk, originating in China. The dangerous chemical has caused many children to fall sick in China itself.

The products sealed in Malta are chocolate/milk filled biscuits of the Koala Biscuits brand manufactured by Lotte China Foods Co., China and Creamy Candies of the White Rabbit Brand manufactured by Guanshengyuan Food General Factory, Shanghai, China.

The department said this morning that during its monitoring exercise it found that these products had also been imported to Malta.

Although there was no concern for people who may have consumed such products, it was, as a precaution, advising that the public to refrain from consuming them.

Only yesterday, the Food Safety Commission reported that no tainted Chinese foodstuffs had been found in Malta.
