A robbery by two thieves at a supermarket yesterday was foiled when a pedestrian charged them as they fled, wrestling the one holding a bagful of cash and making him drop it before breaking free. The two hooded men walked into the supermarket in Triq ix-Xitwa, Qawra in the afternoon, pointed a knife at the owner and ordered him to hand over the cash, the police said.

The men then walked out of the shop also carrying a laptop they stole from the shop. Sources said the owner identified the intruders as being foreigners from their accents.

Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani Grima was informed and appointed experts to assist in an inquiry she has opened.
