Keane strikes as Liverpool beat PSV

Robbie Keane scored his first goal for Liverpool as Rafael Benitez's men completed a comfortable 3-1 win over PSV Eindhoven at Anfield on Wednesday.

Dirk Kuyt opened the scoring after 4 minutes before Keane struck his first goal in his ninth start for Liverpool by converting a Fernando Torres cross in the 34th.

Steven Gerrard blasted home from a second half free-kick to net his 100th goal in Liverpool colours and give Benitez victory in his 250th game in charge of the Reds.

The Liverpool manager will be upset at the manner substitute Danny Koevermans was allowed to get between sleeping defenders to score a consolation goal quickly after Gerrard's 76th minute strike.

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Keane, who cost Liverpool an initial 19 million pounds ($33.87 million) in July, had caused growing concern at his failure to find the net.

But the Irishman showed confident poise to guide Torres' cross past Andreas Isaksson in the PSV goal after the Sweden keeper should have dealt better with Dutchman Kuyt's early goal.

Liverpool's next opponents Aletico Madrid top Group D on goal difference after a 2-1 home win over Olympique Marseille and the two sides meet next in Madrid on Oct. 22.
