Bad example to youngsters on TVM
Just before the 6 p.m. News in Brief on TVM last Monday, in a new programme called Take 15 and in a band normally reserved for youngsters, the two presenters toasted each other with a glass of white wine.
No wonder our youngsters abuse alcohol when presenters who should be their role models seem to be having the time of their life sipping a glass of wine while "presenting" a programme that has been chosen to go on air thanks to our taxes and the infamous TV licence we are forced to pay!

If you are influenced by two TV presenters on TVM and tend to copy everything they do then your problems run much deeper than alcohol abuse.

Our youngsters definitely need positive role models. If even adults give in to the permissive attidude which has engulfed our society, then no wonder that our youths' future is in shambles. We are sowing wind. One day we will definitely reap a whirlwind. And then it will be too late to get a life, even for those who think that they have one by giving the impression of being cool and trendy.

I read in a study some time ago that children who were introduced to alcohol at home, such as in a small glass of wine or beer with a meal, were less likely to experiment with it outside the home. Peer pressure has much more influence on a child than seeing something on TV.

After all this fuss about a glass of wine, am I right in thinking that you don't let your children watch TV, go to the cinema or even go to Paceville?

So don't take your kids to hear mass. I imagine that the priest still drinks wine in full view of any children present in the congregation? It is good to react; not so good to over-react.

First of all, if the program is directed at youngsters, then the presenters, even more so the producer and the station manager should be repriminded for allowing the drinking of alcohol during the program. Even if let's say, there was colored water in the glasses, it's still uncalled for, because it's simulating wine. Teenagers do emulate what they see others doing - peer pressure and all that. The same goes for smoking.
As far as the TV license - it's time to do away with it!

What's wrong about two people sipping wine on tv? Since when drinking wine has become immoral? I used to take a sip of wine since i was 8. I'm no alcoholic today. Should we censor Jesus' last supper, because Our Lord drank wine? Come on, get a life!

With due respect, the letter said that it was during the time slot normally reserved for youngsters.
Once has to remember that youngsters are copycats.

Nice sarcastic comment.

If you dont like it then dont allow your kids to watch it.
Isn't it about time parents started taking responsibility for their own children as opposed to looking to all and sundry for excuses to offset the blame?

Better to sip a glass of wine then to drink bottles of whiskey! All joking apart, is it really such a big problem if 2 people were sipping a glass of wine during this programme? Aren't there more important issues on our state TV channel that might inspire a conversation?

And what about the way certain females dress when presenting certain programmes, even for teenagers? Should they appear (un)dressed like that?

Mr Muscat and Mr Galea - your grudging, patronising and mean-spirited attitude to these two young people and the hundreds of liri spent on those two glasses of wine is ridiculous .
